Attention Duluth Rhubarb lovers and CHUM supporters! As a special Rhubarb culinary experience before the festival, First Lutheran Church member and James Beard cookbook hall of fame member (2005) Beatrice Ojakangas will be hosting an “Artisan Rhubarb Jams, Preserves and Condiments” Cooking Class on Monday, June 18, 2012. Afternoon (2 to 4 pm) and evening (6 to 8 pm) sessions will be held at her spacious home kitchen in rural Duluth. Artisan preserves are handcrafted small batches of artisan jams, jellies and preserves in delicious and unique sweet and savory flavor combinations using rhubarb, fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs, such as Rhubarb Ginger Preserves and Rhubarb Strawberry Jam, Minted Rhubarb Chutney. Bea will also discuss how to use artisan preserves in enhancing summer menus.
A $50.00 check to CHUM will reserve your place in a morning or afternoon class on a first come, first served basis as space a limited. Make checks payable to “CHUM” and a note indicating afternoon or evening preference and your phone number, address and email contact information.
